About the Project
People with disabilities currently report that they face many barriers
accessing community facilities. However businesses can expand their
markets by providing services that are accessible for the 20% of people
in Western Australia who have a disability.
The You’re Welcome WA Access Initiative provides people with
disabilities with clear access information about a wide range of facilities
in the central city area and this will be further expanded as the
project develops. Approximately 100 facilities in five geographic
clusters of the central city have been audited. More recently, a project summarising the accessibility of hotels and hostels across the City, Northbridge, West Perth and East Perth has added over 36 hotels to the original list.
The project also aims to provide practical information to assist businesses
make their services accessible to customers of all ages and abilities.
A number of information sheets and access checklists have been developed
as part of the project. Go to the front page to access this information.
A partnership of the Disability Services Commission and the City of
Perth has developed this exciting project. The Project Steering Team
is comprised of representatives of the Disability Services Commission,
the City of Perth, Tourism WA, The Western Australian Local Government
Association, ACROD, the Ministerial Advisory Council on Disability
Services and People with Disabilities (Inc).
