Barrack Street terminal for the South Perth Ferry

A fully wheelchair accessible pier, this is the departure and arrival point for the Shelley Taylor-Smith Ferry that makes regular journeys to the Mends Street Jetty in South Perth. There is a 10-minute walk to the Perth Zoo from the South Perth jetty.

Location: On the river side of Barrack Square at the end of pier 3.

Summary:
The South Perth ferry, pier and terminal are fully accessible
Accessible toilets are located close to the pier
Piers are clearly identified and ferry information is easy to read

Ticketing: For up-to-date information on public transport journey planning ring 136213 or TTY 9428 1999.

Pedestrian access: Access to the jetties is available for all; refer to Barrack Square information for specific details of access from the city and across the Square.

Accessible parking: Two accessible bays are available within Barrack Square; further bays are a five-minute walk away to the Terrace Road A and B Car Parks that have four accessible bays.

Ticket counter: Can be seen from the footpath, and is in the open air with good weather protection. This can be accessed from street level by steps, level access or gentle slopes depending on the direction of approach. The counter is at standing height.

Pier: There is direct access off the footpath to a boardwalk-style, gently sloping ramp, leading to the pier. Plenty of seating is available down the centre of the pier and both sides have a series of steps along the way down to embarkation points, as well as other fixtures required by the various ferry operators. Some degree of navigation along the path of travel may be necessary. The narrowest space along this path is 1200mm.

Embarkation: At the end of the pier there is a ramp down to a pontoon that provides level access onto the ferry. The slope of the ramp varies depending on the tide and at the lowest tide slightly exceeds 1:14. This and any level differences between the ferry and the pontoon can be manually adjusted by the ferry operators if required. Assistance is available. The Shelley Taylor-Smith ferry is able to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters.

Information: Piers are clearly identified with very high and large numbering. Ferry information is available at the end of the pier on a sandwich board and has large, well contrasted lettering.

Accessible toilets: There are unisex accessible toilets located down the covered corridor on the river side of both the East and West Pavilions. For more detailed information on these toilets refer to the Barrack Square - West and East Pavilions information.
