Art Gallery of Western Australia

Location: In the Perth Cultural Centre between the Perth Train Station and the State Library of Western Australia.

Summary:
 All public areas are accessible to people with physical disabilities.
 A wide range of equipment and services are available for people with physical and sensory disabilities (details below).
 A well appointed unisex accessible toilet is located on the ground floor close to the front entrance.
 Signage and information displays are well located and easy to read.

External access: Wide level access off the Cultural Centre precinct with a tactile path leading from the Perth Train Station concourse level, past the front entrance. There is sufficient space of all styles of wheelchair to approach the Art Gallery.

External entrances: An automatic sliding door enters off the Cultural Centre forecourt.

Main Gallery: Directly off the main entrance. Two levels with sufficient circulation space for wheelchairs of all sizes to enter and move around.

Lift
The single entry lift is large enough to accommodate oversize exhibitions. External controls are free of obstructions and positioned 1250mm high. Internal controls are 1400 - 1500mm high and all controls illuminate when pressed. The lift has visual but no auditory announcements.

Circulation Space: Merchandise is displayed inside the shop and in the foyer of the Art Gallery. Movement throughout the shop is restricted to smaller style wheelchairs; however space in the foyer would allow all types of wheelchairs access

Seating: Chairs and table are moveable. Tables have a central pedestal
Menu: Table menus are in good colour contrast, easy to read with a 12 point font
Accessible toilet: No accessible toilet within the café, however the Art Gallery toilet which is in close proximity can be used during Art Gallery opening hours.


The Art Gallery Terrace:
Ground level through the BP Community Trust Gallery.
A shaded outdoor area with bench style seating with armrests.
Access via a 750mm wide heavy swing door with a small step ramp on the outside.


Accessible toilet:
Located in the foyer of the Art Gallery adjacent to the shop.
A unisex accessible toilet.
Path of travel to the toilet is large enough for all styles of wheelchairs to move through.
The toilet swing door is 810mm wide, heavy to operate and fast to close with a lever handle and a small locking snib.
Pan height: 460mm
Basin height: 770mm with knee clearance.
The light is on at all times.

Link Building:
Off the BP Community Trust Gallery on the ground level of the Main Gallery and provides a lift and link to the ground floor of the Centenary Building.

Lift
There is no directional signage to this lift. The single entry lift has a car size of 1370mm x 1800mm, with a 1000mm wide door. External controls are free of obstructions and positioned 1100mm high. Internal controls are 1200mm high and all controls illuminate when pressed. The lift has visual but no verbal announcements.

Centenary Galleries:
A heritage building on two levels with sufficient circulation space for users of all wheelchair styles to view all exhibitions.
Ramp:
Provides access to displays on two levels on the ground floor of the Centenary building. The ramp is 11 metres long ramp of 4.2 (1:14) and is wide enough to accommodate all styles of wheelchairs.

Accessible toilet:
There is no designated disabled toilet in the Centenary Galleries. Disabled facilities may be found adjacent to the Main Gallery main doors.

Seating: Seating throughout the gallery is low upholstered couch or bench style.

Signage: Signage is well located, in good colour contrast and easy to read throughout the Gallery.
Printed information is in good colour contrast and easy to read in 12 point font
Display labels and information generally below 1200mm high and larger than 12 point font.
