Perth Cultural Centre

Location: A pedestrian thoroughfare linking the train station concourse level to both ends of the James Street Mall, Francis Street and Beaufort Street. The State Library, Western Australian Museum, The Art Gallery and PICA all enter onto the Cultural Centre precinct.

Type: Paved with some grassed areas on the Beaufort Street end of the James Street Mall.

Closest accessible parking: All have lift access to the Cultural Centre upper level

Drop off bay: A Universal drop off bay is located on Wellington Street outside of the Perth Train Station and on Francis Street opposite the State Library.

Signage: Maps that are clear to read are well located around the Cultural Centre and there is a tactile path leading from the Train Station concourse level past the Art Gallery to the State Library entrance.

External access: There is level access from the Perth train station concourse and from Beaufort Street which leads into the James Street Mall. Both of these paths enter into the upper level of the open space.

Access from the William Street end of the James Street Mall is via 7 steps and a long gentle ramp adjacent to State Library. This leads to a middle level between the Library and the James Street Mall.
Access from Francis Street is via a long ramp with landings that is located between the State Library and the Museum. The average gradient for the ramp is 4.1° (1:14).

Internal: The whole area is paved and there are wide steps down to a water feature adjacent to the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

There are 11 wide steps and a long switch back ramp on the William Street side of the Centre which connects the upper and middle levels. The ramp has an average gradient of 5.4° (1:11).

Seating: Some seating is located along the shady entrance from Beaufort Street. The walls around the garden beds throughout the upper levels provide alternative seating.

Drinking fountain: No drinking fountains are provided.

Safety: Passing pedestrian traffic through the area at all times.

Lighting: There is overhead lighting.
