A large paved area that links Wellington Street and the Perth train station with the Murray Street Mall. Lift access is available to the upper level arcades leading to Padbury Walk / Forrest Chase, the bus station, the train station and the Perth Cultural Centre. Often used for city outdoor celebrations and public functions. Services and facilities include: Location: Between Wellington and the Murray Street Mall with Myer and retail outlets on the eastern side. The General Post Office (GPO) and City of Perth Visitors Centre are on the west side. Summary: Public transport: Very close to Perth train station. CAT bus stops are Red 15, yellow 28 and Blue 5 at the east end of the Murray Street Mall. Access from the footpath and through the plaza: Level access onto wide paths to the surrounding upper level. There are three steps on four sides and four corner ramps at a gradient of 1:16 (3.6°) leading to a central lowered section. There are no handrails or ground surface indicators on steps or ramps down to the central lowered area and there is very little colour contrast throughout the area. With pavement clutter and steps that may be difficult to see, it could be hazardous for pedestrians with low vision and not familiar with the area to navigate through. The main pedestrian pathway is around the perimeter of the plaza. Access from Wellington Street: Access is via steps and an adjacent curved, switchback ramp. The ramp is 1600mm wide, has no landings and a gradient of 1:11 (5.2°). The ramp is not visible and the easy to read sign is obstructed by a wall. Lift: Two lifts provide access from Forrest Place to the concourse level leading to Padbury Walk (the upper levels of Carillon City) and linking with the Perth train station, the bus station and the Cultural Centre. As there are two lifts, this information relates to the largest one (left hand side facing lifts). The lifts are located behind the escalators on the Murray Street Mall end of Forrest Place. Lift car size is very large and would accommodate all wheelchairs and scooters. The door width is 1250mm. External controls are free of obstructions and positioned 1300mm high, internal controls are 860mm high. There is directional visual information both inside and out, but no auditory information.
