Central Park

Location: Corner of William and Hay Street.

Summary:

Type: Open and grassed. One section under an atrium.

 Central Park Car Park (Wilson’s) (3 bays)

 Universal bay on Hay Street next to the park

Closest public transport:
 Red CAT stop 17 Hay Street

Signage: No directional signage. The park is visible from William and Hay Streets.

External access: Level access from Hay and William Streets.

Internal: Wide paths that would accommodate users of wheelchairs of all sizes.
All grassed areas are raised and can be accessed via steps. The grassed area adjacent to Hay Street has a ramp which is 1140mm wide, accommodating users of smaller wheelchairs only. There is one change of direction on the ramp, with no landing. The gradient averages 3.5 degrees (1:17 gradient). There are no seats on the grass.

Seating: There is an abundance of bench style seating with a seat height of 450mm, a low rear wall providing minimal backrest support and seats have no armrests. These are located around the park on the easily accessible lower paved paths and the design of the park provides spaces for wheelchairs along side the seating.

Shade: Trees provides shade to the park.

Drinking fountain: There is an accessible drinking fountain set at two levels near the Hay Street entrance. It has generous circulation space and is on flat ground.

Safety: Vegetation and raised grassed areas is a barrier to passive surveillance from Hay Street.

Lighting: There is overhead lighting
