Environment Grants and Sponsorships

To support the community undertake activities that deliver a more sustainable city, the City of Perth runs the Environment Grants and Sponsorship Program.

During 2013/14 the City of Perth will support community projects through three funding categories:

  • Fully Funded Environment Grant > improve environment sustainability, awareness and connection to the environment.
  • Matched Environment Funding Grant > improve the environment sustainability of a property, business or residence in the City; and
  • Environment Sponsorship > stage environment events and activities in the city.

Each category has its own priorities and requirements so it is important to read the Environment Grants and Sponsorship Guidelines thoroughly before preparing an application.

When is the deadline?

  • Round 1
    Applications for Matched Environment Funding and Fully Funded Environment Grants will close at 4.00pm on Thursday, 25 July 2013.
    A briefing session will be held to assist you with the application process. Details TBA.
  • Round 2
    Applications for Fully Funded Environment Grants will open Nov/Dec and the funding round will close Tuesday, 3 December 2013.

Environment Sponsorship
Applications for Environment Sponsorship will be received throughout the year. However you must complete the ‘Stage 1 Sponsorship Application Form’ and discuss your proposal with the City of Perth prior to submitting a full application.

How do I apply?
Please download the Environment Grants and Sponsorship Guidelines and relevant Application Form provided below. Please read the documents carefully before preparing your application.

Submit the application form and project proposal electronically to jessica.turner@cityofperth.wa.gov.au

Please mark applications as ‘CONFIDENTIAL – Environment Grant / Sponsorship Application’ followed by your organisation’s name in the subject heading. Remember to address all sections and include all relevant information. Hard copies may be submitted by prior request.

A briefing session will be held to assist potential applicants develop their proposals.

Solar Bike
The Big Issue Electric Bike Project
Solar Bike will build an electric cargo bike to replace the car currently used to distribute The Big Issue magazine to retailers in Perth. The bike is expected to reduce carbon emissions by at least 1 tonne per annum. 
Perth City Farm
Growing Gardens Project
Perth City Farm will build three demonstration edible gardens, that could be built in small spaces, to feed a family. Workshops and a step by step instruction guide will be developed to assist visitors design and build their own gardens. 
Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) and Civil Service Association (CSA)
Greening Perth Offices conference
The conference will be open to all businesses, organisations and union members based in Perth focusing on changing workplace behaviour to reduce energy and resource consumption. 
Bar 138
Vertical Garden Wall
Bar 138 will install an edible vertical garden providing fresh local produce to be used within the restaurant.
EMC Solar Construction Pty Ltd
Electric Vehicle Charging Station at EMC House
The charging station will provide a free charging point in West Perth for electric vehicles. 
The Blue Room Theatre
Greening the Blue Room Theatre
A carbon audit will be completed at the theatre and will form the basis of a carbon emissions reduction plan. 
Mercedes College
The Vertical Garden Project
An edible vertical garden will be installed and harvested for use in home economics classes and within the canteen. The garden will be maintained by the students participating in a Mercedes College ‘Environment Stewards’ program.

EMC House Becomes a Net Energy Exporter
A commercial scale solar photovoltaic (PV) system was installed at their West Perth property in Colin Street producing enough electricity to run the office located on the property.

GRO Project
Perth City Farm developed a water recovery scheme designed to divert spent coffee grounds away from landfill and reuse them as the primary growing substrate for farming gourmet mushrooms.

A restaurant based education program was run which facilitated the implementation of sustainability principles into business practices.

Great Gardens Sustainability Day
The Great Gardens Sustainability Day was held on the 26 May 2012 and involved a series of live demonstrations, presentations and workshops designed to inspire positive behaviour change in relation to sustainability.

2010/11
Conservation Council of WA
Environment Seminar Series
Three Environment Matters Seminars were held in the city.
The seminars topics were:
· Perth’s Water Future – Life in the driest capital city in the world (April);
· Too Big For Our Boots? Perth’s carbon footprint and what can be done to reduce it (May);
· Swan Song – How can we fix our Swan River (June).
Conservation Council of WA
WA Environment and Art Exhibition and Award
The WA Environmental Art Exhibition and Award was held on the 22 October 2011 at Perth City Farm and ran for two weeks.
Landcare Solutions
Great Gardens Mega Event
The Great Gardens Mega event was held on the 14 May 2011. The event attracted over 800 community members and over 20 sustainability organisations to the City. 
Womens Health Services
Put in bike rack and related end of trip facilities.
Five bike racks, three for staff, two for clients were installed along with security fencing and end of trip shower facilities to assist in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Claise Brook Catchment Group (CBCG)
Review of Bringing back the Swans Study.
CBCG engaged Dr Mike Bamford to conduct a review of 'Bringing Back the Swan’ (a report written in 2000). The review focuses on current proposed foreshore developments in the City of Perth and identifies opportunities to encourage black swans back into the area. 

City of Perth NABERS Energy Assessment Grant

CitySwitch City of Perth is offering a grant to help meet the cost of a NABERS energy assessment. The grant is 50% of the cost of the assessment to a maximum value of $1000.

New CitySwitch Signatories (excluding Government departments and NABERS self assessments) joining after 1 September 2011 are eligible to apply for a grant for a NABERS Energy assessment.

Funds are limited and grants will be processed in the order they are received.
