25 years of Western Australians celebrating Australia Day with Skyworks

On Monday 26 January the largest annual community festivities in the country, Lotterywest Australia Day Skyworks, will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and Western Australians are preparing for something truly spectacular!

Approximately 300,000 people are expected to line the foreshore of the Swan River for this celebration of national pride and the WA community spirit.

Expect extra sparkle at this year's silver jubilee event as Skyworks organisers have sourced a line-up of some of Australia's best entertainment for a range of concerts, family activities and of course the 2009 Lotterywest Australia Day Skyworks.

The day will begin with local government Citizenship Ceremonies to recognise the dedication and achievements of outstanding members of the community.

Throughout the day family entertainment will be spread across Langley Park, Supreme Court Gardens, Esplanade Reserve, Sir James Mitchell Park, Barrack Square and on the Swan River. On January 26 the hardest decision for families to make is how to split up the day to fit everything in!

ARIA Award nominated rock group British India will headline the Youth Zone on Langely Park while on the Supreme Court Gardents Noongar chanteuse Gina Williams will conclude the afternoon's Aboriginal concert Ngalang Koolark (which translates to Our Home).

However, it is the pièce de résistance, the Lotterywest Skyworks that everyone comes to see. In fact, the 2009 show is set to be the most extravagant show in Skyworks' 25 year history.

To celebrate this special milestone, this year's display will paint the sky silver using over 20,000 pyrotechnic effects for the 30 minute show that will rival the best firework displays in the world.

Excellent images and interview opportunities available upon request.
