Public Art
The City of Perth supports a range of public art initiatives throughout the city, in major civic squares, streetscapes, parks and unexpected places. Ranging from civic statuary, monumental sculpture, quirky street art and temporary installations, the public art collection offers something for everyone.
Public Art Study
In January 2010, the City of Perth adopted the Public Art Study: Review Report, the first step in a process to develop a clear direction for public art in Western Australia’s capital city. The report includes a major review of public art operations within the City of Perth, and other local, national and international local government authorities with a series of recommendations for developing a clear vision for Perth’s public art initiatives.
Following the adoption of the recommendations, the City of Perth is currently developing its first Public Art Policy and Strategy. Situate: International Sculpture Competition
Situate, a State Government initiative supported by the City of Perth, offered a $1 million prize for an outstanding artwork to transform Perth’s major civic space; Forrest Place, currently undergoing major redevelopment. The winning entry, by artist James Angus is a tactile and playful biomorphic form, unashamedly sculptural and non-descriptive. Without doubt, the artwork will become a marker for the city and a vibrant focal point for Forrest Place.
“The City of Perth is excited by the winning artwork, which will be a defining place-marker that should evoke much discussion and debate,” Ms Scaffidi said.

Art City
The City of Perth is currently developing a new guide to Perth’s art in public places. The guide will invite visitors to engage with the diverse artworks throughout the inner city, its parks and buildings, featuring artworks commissioned by the City of Perth and other organisations.
