Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said the initiative would help reduce the City’s current CO2 emissions by more than 45 tonnes over the next three years.

“By the end of the 2020/21 financial year, all of the City of Perth’s entire small sedan fleet will be hybrid vehicles,” Mr Lumsden said.

“This demonstrates the City’s commitment to improved sustainability and responsible fleet management.”

It’s also expected that fuel usage will reduce by 300 litres per vehicle per annum, saving more than $44,000 over the next three years.

The hybrid engine works by providing power through a petrol engine, while the electric motor assists with acceleration, deceleration and braking.

In addition to this commitment the City is looking to introduce hybrid diesel powered trucks this financial year, depending on a study into benefits and feasibility.
