The Residency Exchange Program offers opportunities to enhance cultural networks between the two cities, and helps to promote Perth’s art and culture in the Asia Pacific Region.
2018 is the second year of the exchange program between Kuandu Fine Art Museum, located on the campus of the Taipei National University of the Arts, and Turner Galleries.
This year’s cultural exchange will take place from August to November between two art curators: Eugenio Viola, Senior Curator at The Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), and Yao Jui-Chung, a leading Taiwanese artist, curator, writer and academic.
Mr Viola will travel to Taipei for two weeks in November where he will undertake research and attend the opening of the Taipei Biennial at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
Chair of Commissioners Eric Lumsden said the project had already demonstrated success in fostering new relationships and enhancing cultural networks between Perth and Taipei.
“In addition to the cultural and professional development opportunities of the exchange, community engagement will be enhanced through community exhibitions, artist talks and studio residencies,” Mr Lumsden said.
“There is high development potential for both the visual arts sector in Western Australia and for international relations.”
A number of free events will be hosted by the City and Turner Galleries, starting with a community poster exhibition from 3-13 August 2018.
