Election Process

Local government elections are held every two years on the third Saturday in October. 

Each election four City of Perth Councillors are elected for terms of four years. Four Councillors were elected in October 2015, for terms ending in October 2019:

  • Cr Jim Adamos
  • Cr Lily Chen
  • Cr Janet Davidson
  • Deputy Lord Mayor Green

Four Councillors were elected in October 2017, for terms ending in October 2021:

  • Cr Lexi Barton
  • Cr Reece Harley
  • Cr Steve Hasluck
  • Cr James Limnios

A Lord Mayoral election is held every four years. Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi was elected in October 2015, for a four year term, expiring in October 2019.

Election packages are posted electors approximately three weeks before election day. The packages can be returned by mail or hand delivered and placed in a sealed ballot box at Council House, 27 St Georges Terrace, Perth, up until 6pm on election day. The count commences at 6pm and the results are available later that evening.

Who is entitled to vote?

Residents

Residents of the City are eligible to vote in Council elections if they are eligible to vote in state and Commonwealth elections and are listed on the state and Commonwealth electoral rolls.

If you are a resident of the City you can check whether you are enrolled to vote by visiting the Western Australian Electoral Commission website.

To be included on the State Electoral Roll, fill out the Enrol to Vote form, and return it in an envelope (no postage required) to:

Non-Resident Property Owners

You may be eligible to vote in Council elections if you own property within the City of Perth, you are eligible to vote in state elections and you are listed on the state electoral roll, but you are not a resident of the City.

To apply to enrol as a non-resident owner property owner, complete the Application for Inclusion on the Owners and Occupiers Roll form and return it to:

Governance will consider your claim, decide whether you are eligible and inform you of your enrolment in writing.

Business Property Owners or Occupiers

Body corporate entities can own property within the City or have the legal right to occupy rateable property for at least the next three months, can nominate two people to vote on behalf of the body corporate. To nominate electors, complete all sections of Application to Nominate Electors on the Owners and Occupiers Roll form and return it to:
