Rebates and Concessions:

Pensioners/Seniors

Eligible Pensioners or Seniors may qualify for a concession from Council Rates and the Emergency Services Levy and in some circumstances, to rubbish service charges.  Please contact the Council Rates section on 9461 3374, or the Water Corporation on 1300 659 951 for further information or to obtain an application form.

As part of the 2015/16 State Budget, the state government announced that from the rating year commencing 1 July 2016, the 50% concession allowed to eligible pensioners on local government rates would be restricted to a capped amount.
For the 2018/2019 financial year, the pensioner rates capped amount is remaining at $750.  Seniors will have their rebates capped at a maximum amount of $100. The City does not administer the laws in regards to pensioner concessions.  If you wish to lodge a complaint regarding the capping amounts for concessions, please contact your local Member of Parliament.   

Heritage Rate Concession
In 2017 the City of Perth adopted revisions to the Heritage Rate Concessions Policy. This revised policy will be effective until 2022 when it will be revised.  All owners of rateable heritage listed property that is in the City of Perth, including Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority controlled land in the City of Perth boundaries, can apply for a discount on their general rates to assist with the care and general maintenance of their property. Rates Exemptions
Under S6.26 of the Local Government Act 1995, some organisations may be eligible to apply for a rates exemption.

Charitable organisations, religious bodies, government agencies etc may be eligible to apply for a non-rateable status.

The application form for a rates exemption can be downloaded by clicking on the link on the bottom of this section. The completed form can be sent to the City of Perth along with all supporting documentation for it to be assessed. A decision will be prepared and you will be advised of the outcome in due course.

Rates exemptions will remain in place unless circumstances of the exemption change or when the review period is due which is usually between 1-3 years.  A review will be undertaken to determine if the exemption is to continue.
