From today Yagan Square has transformed into a central celebration point for this year’s theme – Because of Her, We Can.

The theme recognises the roles women play as active and significant role models at community, local, state and national levels.

The City of Perth’s Winter Fest Dome and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority's Winter Lodge have provided the venues for Yagan Square’s celebrations, highlighting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements.

This morning and afternoon, see Koolangkas Kreate - an Aboriginal youth dance troupe based in Bunbury - take over the Winter Fest Dome with their captivating corroborree.

Or, get the kids involved in some contemporary hip hop and traditional Aboriginal dance workshops with the Bibbulman Koorda Tribe at 12.30pm.

Tomorrow (13 July), the Winter Fest Dome will house dance workshops from three talented groups - Koolangkas Kreate, Wadumbah and Kwobidak Yok Kenning.

On both days, the Winter Lodge will host various talks, music performances, dances and dreamtime stories, while the Winter Fest Dome will provide sessions on basket weaving, bracelet making, face painting and rock painting.
