This week, City of Perth Fashion Central will come alive with the very best in local designs and trends during the 2018 Telstra Perth Fashion Festival (TPFF).
Welcoming the spring season, a variety of free parades and entertainment will take place from Friday 7 September to Sunday 9 September in Forrest Place.
More than $200,000 was awarded to the Fashion Council of WA as part of City of Perth’s sponsorship.
“Instilling a sense of vibrancy, Fashion Central will feature three days of parades showcasing local retailer designs in addition to live music and entertainment pop-ups,” Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said.
TPFF Director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said City of Perth Fashion Central would offer something for everyone.
“This year’s Fashion Central is bigger and better than ever and Forrest Place is once again the centre of the action,” Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said.
“The fashion on show will present an eclectic mix of established brands and emerging creators, and guests can get inspiration from the runway then shop the looks at the many stores and boutiques in the area. And best of all - it’s all free.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to explore all the City of Perth has to offer, then finish up with a signature TPFF cocktail and live jazz music at QT Perth’s after-party.”
The most anticipated parade is the Aboriginal Runway: Djurip Djenna Kooling where Aboriginal artwork depicting rich colours and evocative landscapes will be front and centre. Presenting ethical fashion labels Kirrikin and Magpie Goose, this stunning showcase will communicate Aboriginal art, culture and stories through fashion.
Working with remote communities, the labels feature a broad perspective of Aboriginal art from around the country, printed onto luxurious fabrics and turned into eye-catching garments.
Visitors will no doubt delve into the work of South Metropolitan TAFE fashion and floristry students, who will present interSECTION – a celebration of our urban environment and its living greenery.
These talented students have taken inspiration from urban art and iconic architecture in Perth, with landmarks such as Perth City Farm, St Georges Cathedral, Perth Mint and Government House featured.

Plus, visitors to Fashion Central can show their receipt for any purchase made above $20 in the city to claim a free limited-edition Spring in the City shopping tote designed by fashion illustrator Michelle Pike
