West Tech Fest is a week-long festival to be held in December 2018 that attracts business founders, tech leaders and investors from around Australia, the US, UK and Asia.

Startup Weekend is a fast-paced, globally-recognised movement aimed at teaching people the foundations of creating a startup business.

Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said these events were integral for building local businesses and supporting the growing innovation and startup ecosystem in Perth.

“West Tech Fest is flagship event in the local innovation industry and a unique way to showcase Perth’s bourgeoning technology companies and expertise,” Mr Lumsden said.

“Previous Startup Weekends have provided the spark for entrepreneurs to take their business idea to the next level”.

“Both events are strongly aligned with the City’s economic development objectives, promoting Perth as a business and investment destination and a centre of regional significance.”

Keynote speakers from last year’s West Fest Tech include former Facebook and Google executive Stephanie Hannon and Dr Paul Herz, responsible for leading manufacturing, quality and Asia operations in Facebook’s consumer hardware division.

The funding will be carried out over three years with West Tech Fest receiving $50,000 per year and $10,000 per year allocated for Startup Weekend.
