This prestigious accolade reflects the collaborative efforts across the City's Sustainability, Infrastructure and Assets, Parks and Environment, and Urban Design teams, all of whom are dedicated to embedding waterwise principles into everyday practices.

As part of the award application, the City demonstrated a strong commitment to securing long-term water resilience. Key initiatives included the expansion of the Claisebrook stormwater harvesting system and the adoption of improved irrigation management strategies to reduce water consumption and increase efficiency, saving the equivalent of 80 Olympic-sized swimming pools in water every year!

Beyond infrastructure, the City continues to build community resilience to climate change through strategic initiatives like the Urban Greening Strategy 2023–2036, which supports increased greening across both public and private spaces.

Ongoing public education also plays a vital role in fostering a water-conscious community. One example is the annual Tree Month - a celebration of nature and sustainability. Now in its third year, Tree Month 2025 is currently underway, featuring nearly 20 free nature-based and sustainability-focused events throughout May.
