Established in 2005, the Make Smoking History Targa West Rally is a four-day tarmac event staged annually at several sites across the City of Perth, and the greater metropolitan area.

Chair of Commissioners Eric Lumsden said Targa West is a unique event on the City’s calendar, and draws crowds from all walks of life.

“The City of Perth has a strong association with the Targa West Rally, supporting the event from its inception and now heading into its 14th year,” Commissioner Lumsden said.

“2018 is expected to draw 25,000 people to the city over the four-day event, injecting an expected $2.7 million into the local economy, and is the only annual motorsport event held within the City.

“This year will also include an inaugural electric car race, which shows the event’s commitment to embracing the revolution within the car industry.”

The City has worked with event organisers to incorporate new family friendly components into the 2018 event including a classic car display on Langley Park, a Celebration of Motorsport display and a family zone featuring Scalextric, bouncy castles and children’s face painting.

The deal consists of a $70,000 cash sponsorship annually, and this year will run from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 August.
