Activities such as crane operations, excavations or day to day maintenance within our city are just some that may create an obstruction. Whatever the reason, approval is required to ensure the safety of city users as well as the notification and co-ordination of vital services.To obtain an approval to obstruct roads, footpaths or verges, an application must be made to the Development Approvals Unit. There is a non-refundable, GST inclusive, application fee for each permit.

Whatever the reason, approval is required to ensure the safety of city users as well as the co-ordination of vital services, traffic impacts and necessary works across the city.

The City of Perth Thoroughfares and Public Places Local Law prohibits the obstruction of footpaths, verges and roads, without an Obstruction Permit. To obtain an Obstruction Permit, please read the City’s Terms and Conditions to ensure all requirements are met prior to submission. Applications can be made by selecting the link below. There is a non-refundable, GST inclusive, application fee for each permit.

Fees

The following fees and charges will apply to your application:

  • Standard Application and Processing Fee: $150
  • Road Closure Application and Processing Fee: $275

Parking Fees

Where parking bays are impacted by the works being undertaken, fees are applicable. You will be invoiced separately for these fees once an assessment is made by our Parking Services Unit.

Works Bond

A bond is generally required for road excavations and where permitted, whenever a heavy vehicle or machine is to be driven on or across a footpath or in the malls. If a Bond is required, you will be invoiced separately.

Please Note: Additional fees may be applicable for public health approvals and traffic management advice. Where these fees are payable, you will be notified by the Activity Approvals Unit and invoiced separately.
Obstruction Permits will not be issued until all additional invoices have been paid.

Note: The Permit Holder is responsible for ensuring compliance with the conditions as outlined in the Road and Footpath Obstruction Permit. If you are applying on behalf of another company, and are not able or willing to ensure compliance, please have the appropriate company complete the application form. Non-compliance with permit conditions can result in infringements and/ or work being halted.
