Inquiry

A formal inquiry into the City of Perth was held after the Minister for Local Government suspended the Council on 8 March, 2018 and appointed three commissioners to perform the duties of Council.

The Inquiry, which included public and private hearings held over 11 months, ended on 10 October 2019.

The resulting report was tabled in Parliament on 11 August 2020 and included 341 recommendations – 215 for the City and 126 for the Minister for Local Government and the State Government. The City of Perth has completed 178 (or 83%) of those 215 recommendations (as at 30 June 2022).

A new City of Perth Council was elected in October 2020 and on 15 December 2020, endorsed the Inquiry into the City of Perth Implementation Plan.

In July 2021, the City of Perth released Evolution to Excellence, our strategy to become an organisation that is renowned for its excellence and professionalism and a workplace committed to accountability, integrity and respect. It also includes an action plan which outlines the initiatives we are undertaking in responses to the inquiry recommendations.
