Evolving City

Evolving City is the latest in a series of studies, designed to monitor and analyse significant patterns and emerging trends in land use and employment in the city, since 1990.
Evolving City, a joint publication by the City of Perth and the West Australian Planning Committee, captures the changes occurring in the city and informs future policy and planning decisions. The key findings include:
  • Considerable growth in office/business land use, suggesting a further shift towards a knowledge-based economy
  • Growth in part-time employment, displaying the new flexible economic character of the city
  • Shortage of office space which is driving up rental rates and causing many businesses to move to peripheral areas such as West Perth and Subiaco – although several new developments are now becoming available which should ease the situation.
