LMDRF Presiding Chair and City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas thanked Rio Tinto for their significant contribution to the appeal.

The donation from Rio Tinto brings the LMDRF Tropical Cyclone Seroja Appeal to $5,747,811, to provide much needed financial support to the communities affected by this devastating cyclone.

The cyclone damaged area spans more than 700km long and 150km wide, this is equivalent to half the size of Victoria. We now know that it has destroyed 54 buildings and damaged over 1,000. The response required is massive and these communities desperately need our help.

The LMDRF Tropical Cyclone Appeal will work with all 13 local governments to ensure money is disbursed to victims of the cyclone as quickly as possible and that those that need help, receive it. While we can’t replace what people have lost, we can help ease their financial burden.

“I continue to urge Western Australians to dig deep and support the appeal. Every little bit helps and together we can make a real difference to the lives of our fellow Western Australians,” LMDRF Presiding Chair Basil Zempilas said.
