Join the Library

Anyone can join and borrow from the City of Perth Library, all you need is proof of your current residential address and signature. Please check the types of identification we accept.

Children and teenagers under 18 years old can have their own Library membership, but they must be signed up by a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian will need to provide proof of their current residential address, identification and signature.

Join online

Only residents of Western Australia can join online.

  1. Complete the online form.*
    The library will process your completed form. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.
  2. Receive confirmation email
    You can start using our eResources as soon as you receive your confirmation email.
  3. Collect your card and verify your account in person.
    If you would like to borrow from the library, please visit the desk on the Ground Floor. We will verify your address and issue your card.  

    *Please note that personal information given to the Library will only be used for the purpose for which it has been provided. If you provide your email address we will send you our email newsletter to keep you informed, however you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. If you wish to unsubscribe from the newsletter, please click the 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom of any newsletter we send you. 

Join in person

Visit the library with your identification to join in person. Please supply your email address and phone number. We will verify your details and issue a library card.

Identification we accept

  • Current Western Australian Driver's Licence OR
  • With photo ID: a bill or bank statement less than six weeks old, showing your current home address (we will also need your signature) OR
  • Without photo ID: a current, signed Health Care Card and bill or bank statement less than six weeks old, showing your current home address (we will also need your signature).

Temporary membership

In some circumstances, people who are visiting Western Australia or who are unable to meet the conditions outlined above may be granted a temporary membership. 

Temporary memberships are valid for three months. Temporary members may borrow up to two items at a time.
