FOGO bin (lime-green lid)

A handy tip from our Creature of Habit

If it grows, it goes.

Let’s clean up FOGO for good. Just these three things in your FOGO bin make quality compost:

1. Food scraps, 2. Garden waste and 3. Certified compostable liners.

Yes — put these in your FOGO bin

Food organics
  • Fruit and veg scraps - peels, cores offcuts
  • Meat, bones and seafood - raw or cooked
  • Dairy products - cheese, yoghurt
  • Food scraps and leftovers
  • Bread, pasta and grains
  • Eggshells
  • Coffee grounds and tea leaves
Garden organics
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves and small branches
  • Weeds
  • Flowers and prunings

Where can I get compostable liners?

In the habit of tossing some things in the wrong bin?

Check below to see where non-FOGO items belong.

  • Recycling bin (yellow-lid)

Use your yellow lidded bin for non-organic items that can be recycled in Western Australia. Ensure all recycling is clean, dry, empty and loose (not in bags).

    • Unshredded paper
    • Newspaper and cardboard
    • Aluminium or steel cans
    • Plastic bottles
    • Containers or paper cartons that are not long-life/silver-lined (i.e. milk, juice)
    • Glass bottles
    • Containers with lids off
    • Hard plastics (i.e. punnets from berries or yoghurt containers)
  • General waste bin (red-lid)

Use your red lidded bin for items that can’t go in FOGO or recycling, such as:

    • Nappies
    • Hygiene and sanitary products
    • Damaged textiles
    • Pet waste and litter
    • Hair and fur
    • Plastic bags
    • Disposable cutlery
    • Polystyrene
    • Food-soiled packaging and meat trays
    • Tissues and paper towel
    • Compostable packaging and utensils
