What is FOGO?

FOGO stands for Food Organics and Garden Organics. It means the lime-green lidded bin is no longer just for garden waste - it’s now for food scraps too. FOGO will first roll out to houses and smaller residential buildings with up to five units from April 2026. To check whether your property is included in the FOGO rollout, please contact the City of Perth.

Even our Creature of Habit knows new routines can take a little time. That’s why we’ve put together the key things you need to know to get your new habit started.

What’s changing?

There are three main changes to get used to with FOGO.

Food scraps now go in the FOGO bin
Your lime-green lidded bin is now for food scraps, compostable liners and garden waste.

Your new collection schedule
Your lime-green lidded FOGO bin will be collected weekly.
The red lidded general waste and the yellow lidded recycling bin are collected on alternating fortnights.

Your red lidded general waste bin is now fortnightly
The standard service is a 140L general waste bin.

Green-lid bin

FOGO Bin

Now collected weekly.
For food scraps, compostable liners and garden waste.

Yellow-lid bin

Recycling Bin

Now collected fortnightly.
For accepted recycling items like paper, cardboard, bottles, cans and cartons.

Red-lid bin

General Waste Bin

Now collected fortnightly.
For items that can’t go in FOGO or recycling.

Just remember: If it grows, it goes.

How to get set up for FOGO

Step 1: Set up your kitchen caddy
Residents will receive a free handy kitchen caddy and two rolls of compostable liners. Line your caddy and use it to collect food scraps in the kitchen before emptying them into your FOGO bin (lime-green lid).

Step 2: Learn what's good to FOGO
Get familiar with what can and can’t go in your FOGO bin so items end up in the right place.

Step 3: Check your new collection days
Your lime-green lidded FOGO bin goes out weekly. Your red lidded and yellow lidded bins go out fortnightly.
