More recently, he held executive appointments at the City of Busselton and the shires of Ashburton and Donnybrook Balingup.

A recipient of the Public Service Medal, Dr Hunt has also contributed extensively to the local government sector through advisory, governance and professional leadership roles.

Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said Council was pleased to appoint an experienced and capable leader to guide the organisation while a permanent CEO is recruited.

“Dr Hunt brings an exceptional depth of experience, a proven record of leadership and a strong understanding of the City of Perth, having previously led the organisation,” Mr Reynolds said.

“With more than 30 years of experience as a local government CEO, including leading the cities of Perth, Joondalup and Melville, his ability to lead complex organisations and navigate periods of change makes him ideally suited to this role.

“Council is focused on moving forward, providing stability for our organisation and ensuring we continue delivering positive outcomes for the people of Perth.

“This is an important appointment for our City. We have an ambitious agenda for our capital city, and I am confident Dr Hunt will provide the leadership and experience needed as we undertake the recruitment of a permanent CEO.”

Dr Hunt said he was pleased to return to the City of Perth.

“I look forward to working with Council and staff, drawing on my experience to provide steady leadership and support the important work of the City during this transition period,” Dr Hunt said.

The Lord Mayor also thanked Acting CEO Maria Cooke for her leadership and commitment and acknowledged City employees for their professionalism and dedication.

“I want to sincerely thank Maria Cooke, who has been exceptional in stepping into the Acting CEO role and providing calm, professional and considered leadership during an important period for our organisation,” Mr Reynolds said.

“Maria has helped maintain stability and a clear focus on our priorities. I cannot speak highly enough of her contribution, and Council is extremely grateful for her dedication and professionalism.
